On Death

When someone we love dies, we find ourselves in great turmoil.  Words cannot express, even to ourselves, what we are going through.  It gives me comfort to know what the bible says.

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 New International Version (NIV)

5 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”

In comparing 2 Cor. 5:1 tent and house we see the temporary nature of a body in this life compared to what is to come.  This reminds me of a poem:

“Grow old along with me
The best of life is yet to be
The last of life
For which the first was meant”

Again, I get the most peace and blessings from the word of God.

“8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 5:8 New International Version (NIV)

Proverbs 8:34-36 New International Version (NIV)

34 Blessed are those who listen to me,
    watching daily at my doors,
    waiting at my doorway.
35 For those who find me find life
and receive favor from the Lord.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
all who hate me love death.”

Saying 29
19 Do not fret because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,
